INSPIRATION FOR ARTISTS.......

INSPIRATION COMES FROM SOMEWHERE...

PLEASE LOOK AT THESE INSPIRATIONAL LINKS AND QUOTATIONS:

"In illustrating for children, what I relish most is trying to satisfy the constant question in the back of my mind--will this picture capture a child's imagination? What can I do to enhance it further? Does it help to tell a story? I am far from being successful (whatever that means), but I am ever so grateful to small readers who find 'something' in any book of mine." Gyo Fujikawa (1908-1998)

Born in Preston, England, I have maintained a link to my home roots. Perhaps that is why I enjoy illustrators such as Beatrix Potter, most famous for her loving stories of Peter Rabbit.

I fondly remember a collection of "pocket books" for lack of a better description. These were 6 small books, hard covers in a lovely color (blue, purple, green, red, orange and I think gold/yellow)... Classic stories: Puss In Boots, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, they had simple black illustrations done as silhouettes. I have yet to find out who did these illustrations, or any book like them, but when I do... I'll be sure to note them and give a reference. Marilyn Scott Waters has a very similar style which she has adapted in her paper art.

Another inspirational illustrator is Tasha Tudor. Her wonderful picture books have graced my bookshelves since I was very young. Thinking back to when I was young, I could spend hours reading and absorbing the images on the pages of story books. E.H. Shepard, the images familiar
in stories such as Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne and Wind in the Willows by K. Grahame.

Amazing performance art takes a new direction: ART IN CONCERT BY MICHAEL ISREAL

And... the best source of inspiration...

David, Alex and Fiona...
