Landscape Exercise with Pastel

This is work with my 5-year old student. It is a practice painting using chalk pastels to let the student understand the layers of color. The strip of photo, in the center of the page, is about the size of a bookmark, snipped from a calendar with landscape photographs. From that small snip-it, the student extends the image and completes a picture. Here I worked side-by-side the student so that she could model the steps. This lesson took about 40 minutes from start to finish.

I will be using this technique more as I work with students this summer.
