A Hazy View from the Getty Center.
I am always searching for art classes and events that will challenge, inspire, and encourage me as an artist. Perhaps it will ecourage me to produce new work, and certainly will let me improve a skill that I've let handicap me as an artist. On Sunday I went up to the Getty to a LIFE DRAWING class. Instructed by Peter Zokosky who I took an animal drawing class from last year, I knew I was going to get quality instruction and personalized criticism.
Our life model for the class was wonderful, presenting "David" like poses that Michelangelo would have enjoyed sculpting from. I most enjoyed the 1 minute gestures as there is not a lot of time to worry about detail before the pose is changed.
For some of the longer poses, I challenged myself to draw the rib cage, shoulders and define and re-define the muscle structure of the back. I feel I've improved from that first LIFE DRAWING class I took in 1992.... (so long ago?)
I know that at least one of my quick sketches will be the start of a new set of drawings or paintings... we'll just have to see.
I'll be in my studio a lot this summer...
